A Mother Who Left a Powerful Legacy
Edith Sanford was a woman like many of us - a wife and a mother of two sons, Denny and Byron. Together, she and her husband William raised their family in the modest neighborhood of Saint Paul, Minn., during the post-Depression era, doing the best they could to provide for their family in a difficult time.
Before Denny celebrated his fifth birthday, Edith passed away from breast cancer. Growing up without the love of a mother forever changed him. After years of hard work and smart business decisions, Denny was in a position to help ensure that others would not share his same history.
In 2011, Denny made an incredible gift of $100 million that would help launch the Edith Sanford Breast Center. In a plea to the community, Denny expressed his hope for the end of this vicious disease and asked for help in saving mothers so no child would have to live without their irreplaceable love.
Our philanthropist's story reminds us that it is the mothers, wives, sisters and best friends whom we fight for every day. It is our bold mission to find a cure to end this disease.
