Research Today Changes Tomorrow

Developing better prevention methods. Finding lifesaving solutions. Learning why some people are more susceptible than others. Edith Sanford Breast Center is pursuing cutting-edge genomic research to identify specific treatments that will work best for each woman, prevent breast cancer on an individual basis and ultimately eradicate the disease.

Today, we know more about breast cancer than ever before. And the driving force behind every moment of progress has been research. Research enables doctors to understand breast cancer on a new level, improve patient care and transform the lives of those diagnosed.

As a part of Sanford Health, we integrate research and patient care. Our patients have access to the newest treatments, medications and diagnostic methods. In addition, the data from clinical trials our patients participate in helps our researchers create better treatments and prevent breast cancer in future generations.

Clinical Trials

Clinical trials are instrumental in discovering new, and sometimes better, ways to prevent, detect, diagnose or treat breast cancer. At Edith Sanford Breast Center, we lead and can offer patients access to dozens of national and international clinical trials from every facet of breast health. This allows our team of breast cancer experts to offer the most advanced treatment options to our patients.

The Importance of Clinical Trials

Every treatment and every medication was once part of a clinical trial. For each clinical trial, a courageous act by a few potentially leads to breakthrough breast cancer care and treatment options that would not otherwise be available. Clinical trials offer our breast cancer patients the next generation of treatments. Additionally, they are invaluable to researchers, doctors and specialists, as they help find new diagnostic, treatment, care and survivorship methods.

Joining a Clinical Trial

The choice to participate in a clinical trial is personal, depends on your situation and should be made between you and your doctor. It's important to know that anyone who participates in a clinical trial will always get the standard treatment for breast cancer. By participating in a clinical trial, researchers are adding an additional medication or treatment to further study its effectiveness.
